Tehk is definitely my favorite themer right now. If you recall in my first post I had mentioned that my current preferred theme was SHI by Tehkseven and this particular theme is the first that I install whenever I’m customizing a new phone. Just yesterday, Tehk released another great paid theme called Evo Bold. This one is dark and could suit the Darth Vader in you. I like dark themes too damn much and I’m loving this one. Actually, Tehk made it awfully hard for me to choose between the warm red-colored SHI and the dark 3D-looking EVO.
Now if you happen to be a phone freak and own multiple S60 devices, you can purchase the complete theme pack and save up to 3 Euros; the full pack costs 6 Euros and I believe it’s worth every cent. However, if you’d like to buy the theme for a particular Symbian OS release (3rd edition FP1 & FP2 or 5th edition, or even the Eseries) you can always purchase the pack that’s specially designed for it. One of the reasons why I like Tehk’s themes so much is that he skins anything and everything including the built-in Messaging client which sometimes makes it impossible for you to read your emails when using a custom theme, due to the fact that both the background and the font turn white. Tehk even mentions under each pack if the Messaging client is skinned or not. For example, the Eseries edition skins the calendar which is different than other S60 devices and also applies the colors to the built-in Messaging client for the Eseries and the N86 8MP.
If you want to use Tehk’s own icon set (which is one of the best polished icon sets around), the theme will set you back 2 Euros; if not, then it’s a 1 Euro per theme, and that’s an extremely reasonable price considering the long hours spent developing each theme using carbide.ui.
One other great theme which was recently released is the Symbian Planet theme and you can find it here. This one is for free, it’s a collaborative project that involves all three themers Tehk, Mauikek, and Dockside, has a nice blue color, and looks great if you have a silver/black device. I’ve used that on my N97 for a week before going back to SHI. The cool thing about Tehk’s free themes is that attention has been paid to details as if the theme were a commercial one. It also contains Tehk’s original Seven icon set alongside the default icon set.
I’m currently using the Evo Bold theme on my 5530XM, and it rocks!
Below is a shot of the theme on the N97.
